Glenn Wicks went outta business earlier this year. Pretty said, I bought lots of blanks and components from them. It was an amazing place to visit. Thousands of blanks and hundreds of finished rods. Sure would like to know what happened to all the stuff left after the sale they had.

My wife recently bought an almost new Lamiglas from a private seller on Craigslist. He had about 6 other Steelhead rods for sale and he bought all of his rod making supplies from Glen Wicks outfit while they were going out of business. He claimed to have gotten his stuff 80% off. Yeah I don't know where that huge stash of supplies would have gone.

Spot on from what I heard.. I think his son just got tired of dealing with people coming over all the time.

It was great to be able to drive down and for $75 pickup a steelhead blank and components for a new rod. Plus being able to try all the different parts on the blank to see if what you had in mind was going to work. Not to mention the great return policy. I personally had them replace two top sections I broke. One day I was there and a guy pulled up. He got out with a broken rod and said he's had it for years and it was his favorite. He was asked if he just wanted to go upstairs and get a new rod or if he'd like to have that one repaired.

wow that's sad news. i have a couple of his rods and just found out my favorite steelhead rod tip is broken off... I have a salmon rod that i picked up 13 years ago that i have never put in the water.

I've bought a few rods from him and always loved going upstairs in his barn and walk through the hundreds of finished rods and thousands of blanks.

The steelhead I caught on the Mckenzie just the other day was caught using a fly rod kit I built from Glenn. Ive made probably 5-8 personal rods from his stuff. 8 boat rods for my dads guide service. They were "client proof".
I still have 3 blanks and 3 kits to build. One of these days,,,,,

this is a weird thread. I called the Wicks Barn a couple of weeks ago and got the answering machine. I got a call back about a week later from Ron (Glenn's Son). He told me to give him a call when I was able to make it to the Barn and he would be there to meet me.

Sounds like the Barn is open for business, just not opened ended like the old days. Works for me.
