and might answer alot of what you might need to know.
Things
to do, right out of the box:
HOW
TO LOGIN TO THE NEW BOARD
VBulletin is easier to use. You no longer have
to remember a "login name".
Just use your moniker and password to log in - simple as that!
If you've forgotten your password, go to the login page by clicking
the "login" button-( without filling out your login and
password.)
-Or, go directly, by clicking here, or pasting this URL into your
browser location bar:
http://www.ifish.net/board/login.php?do=lostpw
If you have forgotten your username or password, you can request
to have your username emailed to you and to reset your password.
When you fill in your registered email address, you will be sent
instructions on how to reset your password.
Then, hit the button, "Request user name/password now."
Remember, this is case sensitive, so be careful typing!
Also, if you copy and paste, don't leave a space after your e mail
or it won't recognize your e mail.
Then, watch for the e mail. Make sure that it isn't sent to your
junk/trash filter!
Make certain to use your old moniker included in
the letter with your password.
It may be helpful for you to read the FAQ, located here:
http://www.ifish.net/board/faq.php
Thanks, and let me know if you need more help! I can reset it, if
you like, but I have no access to what it is, currently. It is encrypted.
Jen
Birth
date
Some users entered their
birthday in an invalid format, so that vbulletin didn't import it
correctly. So they might get an error saying "you entered an
invalid birth date" when they save their profile.
You just need to correct it then by going to "User CP"
(The User CP (control panel) can be found at the top left of your
screen.) and "Edit Profile". Check all information, then
when you are satisfied with it, scroll down, hit "Save changes"
and you are done! As long as you are there, take a look at the other
options in the User CP.
How
are your eyes?
Have trouble reading in this colored template? You can change the
skin to Ifish default white by going to your User CP and edit options.
It is at the very bottom. A drop down menu will appear with your
choices. Ifish white is very plain vanilla and easier on the eyes,
if you like. Make sure to hit "Save Changes" if you like
it.
Private
messages:
Clean
out your private messages, please!
The User CP (control panel) can be found at the top left of your
screen.
On the right, under the welcome message at top, you will see a header
regarding your private messages. You can click there to go clean
them out, or you can go to your User CP.
This week, we would like you to clean out your private messages.
Click on both sent and received and delete any pm's that you are
able to.
Concerning private messages:
The VB importer will import ALL of your private messages. Even ones
that you have deleted in the past. The situation made it so that
the importer would import all or none. They chose all. So, the limit
will be set very high for PM's when we first move. I will reduce
it later, but I want to give you time to delete what you want, once
we move over there. If you don't delete them, I will have to. I'd
rather you choose which ones to delete and which ones to save. I
believe the limit will be 200 sent and received Private messages.
I don't think there will be an option to e mail them to your box,
(yet, I will look into this.)
Go to "User CP",
"Edit Options" and click to set the checkmark for "Receive
Email Notification of New Private Messages", if you want ifish
to mail you when you have a private message. There is also a text
box below the "Welcome, <user>." box at the upper
right of the board. If you have messages, it says so and it tells
how many you have total.
Update
your EMAIL address.
Any member who has an e mail address that is not reachable or 'live'
will be subject to deletion.

preview pane
If you hold your pointer over the thread you get a preview pane.
Online
Icons
I do like the online/offline icon next to a posters name indication
whether online or not as you read their post!
There's also "Who's
on Line" on the "Quick Links" drop down, at the upper
right of the board.
The list of people on line is displayed at the bottom of the Forum
View page, but not below individual forums.
Read
Threads
Click the little blue arrow (or the fish) at the left of the topic
title. That will take you to the first unread post. It's different,
but I got used to it pretty quickly. Works the same.
Notice too, the icons show the envelope open if you have new, unread
messages in a thread. If you have posts in that thread, there's
also an arrow.
Also, you can go to the last post in a thread, if you click on the
title of the post in the "last post by" column.
What's also cool is that you can start a reply or PM, then go back
a page to double check something, then click forward again and your
post or PM will still be there, waiting for you to finish it! I
like that a lot!
Search
this thread - Awesome
Maybe we had this feature on the "old" ifish but at the
top of each thread there is a new feature that lets you search for
keywords within the thread
Non
active members
If you haven't posted in three years, post or lose your account.
I'm going to be doing some pruning of non active members so that
the transfer runs more smoothly.
Subscriptions
- New ability
I've been looking at the subscriptions. It seems I no longer have
"favorites" but maybe they will show up once things get
moved.
Anyway there's a cool feature now where you can create folders and
organize your subscriptions. This is really great since some subscriptions
are for reference and may be several years old.
Classifieds
Classified ads will be pruned to the last three months. All else
will be (poof!) removed soon!
Avatars
You will have to reinsert your avatar on the new
board. They are not transferred. They show up now as really huge.
Please, please, please... remove your huge avatars and reload them
with littler ones. OK? If you need your old avatar, let me know.
I'll go get it!
I'll be adding
to this, as we go!
I will post updates on what we did and what we will be doing, in
process.
This will be a very exciting and stressful week, so hang in there
as Jennie pulls her hair out, one by one.
(Just watch, and these will be locks of love. I love each one of
you so much that I gave my very head of hair for your ifish enjoyment.)
Please, pray for me and for ifish, and for our combined sanity.
I could not do this without my Heavenly Father, and the help of
the precious ifish (angels) moderators. They guideth me.
THIS IS A GOOD
THING!
The new board is awesome. Can I say that again? AWESOME! It's not
heaven on earth and we will have problems, so hang with me! It will
take some patience and a small learning curve, as all things do.
I am prepared for complaints, and cries of "I hate this! I
quit! This is too hard!"
I will turn a sympathetic, but deaf ear upon these cries.
I know that this is never fun, and often difficult on us older folks.
I understand frustration. I felt the same way when I saw it.
We MUST do this, however. This is a software package that is supported,
that is popular, that is going to be around for a long, long time.
Unlike our other software, which far as I can tell, know not where
they are going, if not ending, altogether.
I think that we have made it similar enough to the old board by
adding hacks, etc. that you will do just fine.
I had one of our beta testers say, "Oh, my... I cannot do this!
I think you have chosen the wrong fellow to help you beta test!"
--but in minutes, he was posting and private messaging as easy as
pie!!!!
He likes it now! |
