Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
The pottery barn keeps them just inside the front door, next to the plates, and above the glasses.
Sorry couldnt resist

Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
There are big bulls everywhere, you just need to find them. Big bulls are big bulls for a reason. If ya want a truely big bull start applying for a NE tag and in 15 to 20yrs you'll have your chance, but in the mean time keep hitting the woods you'll find one eventually!

Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
They are more common than what a lot of people think. The uncommon thing is folks with enough ambition to go out and find one, quality time in the woods. This isn't about driving around glassing clearcuts and calling that scouting.

I think East Hebo is the place you're looking for . There are some really monster bulls in there.

No kidding...Scouting is going on Ifish and asking where to go, what calls to use, and when to hunt!

Hey now... some people just dont have any time to go scout over the next 2 to 4 months or they put in for a tag they know nothing about and drew a tag they weren't expecting. You mean you dont want to help someone out and lead them to the trophy you have tied to a tree somewhere??? Where's the sympathy man!

Don't take it personally Shawn6x6. After reading enough posts myself over the years there's a pattern....especially right after the tag results come out.
Everyone's amped up and excited about the upcoming hunting seasons. Most people have little or no time to scout due to work, family, etc... so what do they do? They go on ifish and start posting threads praying for some tibit of info that may lead them to their next bull/buck of a lifetime....
Heck I've been/am there. I fight tooth and nail just to get out for an afternoon or evening to scout out some new area. I just stopped asking for specific info on here since I've seen the thousands of posts of "not looking for anyone's honey hole" or "looking to get my son/daughter into their first kill" or "any help with x-unit would be greatly appreciated". I've been flamed enough and I've got the burns to prove it
For the Ifishers who've been on here much longer than you and I they've got to get sick of the same questions at the same approx. time, year, after year, after year, after year, after year.....

Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
I'll tell you ... They are in them holes where you look at and think to yourself ," dam thats so steep I don't even know if i can get down there without a rope ." The holes it takes a few hours to get into and a day and a half to climb out of . places you can't even get to safely . Bow hunters are so hard core these days as a group that more often then not these bulls grab as many cows as they can and then run them deep into some hell hole . while most hunters drive by up top stop and call into a hole they know there not gonna go into even if they do get an answer . Them are the places I would start looking first .

Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
Bull Run in Multnomah County is the consummate wildlife refuge and a big bull holder. A list of mammal, bird, amphibian, and fish species that occur in the Bull Run watershed numbers 269. Elk, blacktail, black bear, cougar and western grey squirrel are at the top of the list, and are considered premier species.. It is derived largely from a list compiled for the NW Oregon State Forests Management Plan (2002). It is a list of species whose ranges include the Bull Run.. Only a few of of the 269 are old-growthdependent. Elk use old growth, as well as a host of seral vegetative types. Bull Run is exceeds 100 square miles, and the Portland Water Bureau wants more additions. This is sufficent habitat for many mature (as well as great) bulls and their offspring. The Oregon Records for trophy Cascade Elk contain numerous listings for adjacent Clackamas County. Acreage was last increased approximately 10 years ago, by a foolish Congress and hunters are warned of an obnoxious fine if they cross an arbitrary line on a vaguely surveyed property! I wonder where OHA was at that time and where they stand on single use versus multiple use of our national forest lands? Would the other resource organizations be willing to take on the Portland Water Bureau, Oregon’s congressional delegation, and be willing to halt further land grabbing?

Re: What area hold bigger bulls?
Go out and look for your favorite honey hole. Remember it's the thrill of the hunt rather than the size of the animal. All elk are big, i mean same size from spike to big bulls.

Jewell for Genetics!
If your looking to see some good genetics, I'm sure you've been by Jewell Wildlife Area during Sept/Oct, since it's in your neck of the woods. Never have I seen Roosevelts like them. it was about 15 years ago I went with my dad and saw 25 truly Mature bulls in one pasture with none less that 5 points. There were more than a couple bulls with base's I couldn't get my hands around and mass clear to the top. I bet those bulls have 1000's of descendents by now, who just need to live long enough to grow big. I bet those elk don't travel many miles!
