Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
I have to put together a short half hour presentation on winter steelhead drift fishing. I'm looking for some help on topic areas I should cover; such as reading water, corkie colors, etc. to put together a brief outline I can follow during the presentation.
It's 5:30in the morning and I haven't had my coffee yet so I need a little getting to brain going, any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
JK

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
Who is your audience? To prepare you outline you might go through all the steps you do when fishing.IE: lure selection, reading the water, approaching the water, covering the water, and then maybe off water activities, tieing gear, hook selection, other preparaations. Also gear carried, vest or creel or tacklebox. My coffee is just brewing so hope you might get some ideas from this. Happy thanksgiving

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
i agree with fishbait: go through your mind and outline the steps you take to prepare for a drift trip, what you do when you get there, and what you do when you're done. don't forget sharp hooks. it's easy to overlook on the water and easier to overlook off the water. in all, you'll probably end up with more than thirty minutes of information. from there, pare it down to your target audience. maybe they're more advanced and don't need to be shown how to tie the eggloop. maybe they're just beginning and too much information would just leave them confused.
where are you doing this presentation? i could use some assistance in drift fishing. i do ok sometimes but feel i'm not really fishing the right water at times. i know i've been using a hook that is too big and corkie and yarn selection could be better too.

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
While you probably dont think so now, a half-hour goes by very quickly. I suggest that you consider 2-3 topics as mentioned above and drill down into detail. SOmetimes better to talk in depth on a few things than gloss over a bunch of stuff.
Then remeber to leave at least 10 minutes for questions.
If I were attending, I would like to hear about reading water and and one or two ways to work it. Just my $0.!02.
Good luck

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
Rod & reel selection, egg loop tieing, vest necessities, reading water for the appropriate type of fishing ie drift, spinners, bobbers ect. Your 30 minutes will go fast.

Artwo,
Grab the latest issue of STS and read what I wrote in the Reel Truth column. Its not everything you will need but there maybe something you can use.

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
Thanks everyone for all of your great suggestions. I have read through them all and have started to put together a brief outline.
As far as where this presentation will be and when; the Sandy Chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders is putting on a winter steelhead fishing clinic at the Gresham GI Joes this Saturday Nov. 30 from 10am to 4pm. We will be doing presentation on the different techniques for catching winter steelhead from drift fishing, which I am doing at 10am, to bobber and jig techniques to spinner fishing. We will also have our chapters membership booth there as well for those who just want to come by and chat or join up if you'ld like.
This is all part of GI Joes grand opening of their remodeled super stores of which Gresham is one of them.
So you all are invited to come by and BS about fishing, and I know how much you all like doing that.........................it will be fun.
Thanks Again,
JK

Re: Steelhead Drift Fishing Presentation
i think reading water is the number 1 key to fishing.so you are fishing were the fish are.you can fish the best gear all day but if your not putting it in the right spot your odds are low.
so i would cover
reading water based on river hight, color, weather.water temp, river conture.this should take up most of your time.then a brief gear selection in what water condition.
