Spinning reel
I know there have been several before but i didn't pay much attention. I have always went with the Shimano Sedona 2500. my first one lasted about 4 years my second one lasted just over 2 but after my last fish its done. My buddy said he switched from the symetery to the saros and he said its legit. i wan wondering if anyone has used either. i felt them in a store and i liked the symetery but i think the saros was the older model or a bad one because it was super still and reeled like my blown up sedona. I know Pflugers are good reels and i should look into them but i know nothing on them but i'm just a shimano guy.

I have 2 symetre reels (1000 and 2500) and they both are nice reels. The new Pflueger Supremes are nice reels too.

Re: Spinning reel
The Saros comes with a spare spool and a waterproof drag. If your a big winter steelheader...those two things come in handy.
Performance wise (WP drag aside)...the Saros is a real small hair nicer than the Symetre.

My buddy said it has a water proof drag which sounds awesome. would be nice for those dec-fed freezing days. how are the drags?
i figure since the saros is little more expensive prob little better.

Re: Spinning reel

Re: Spinning reel
I bought a Saros earlier this year and caught a few fish on it. It seems like a nice, solid reel with a smooth drag. No complaints so far.

Re: Spinning reel
Symetre is the way to go unless you can afford the Stradic. If you are not going to be fishing in the salt, go with the Symetre 3000. The 2500 and 3000 have the same body size. I fish Symetre reels and have put them through the ringer they are still going strong.

Re: Spinning reel
Agree with most....go with the best Shimano you can afford. However, I actually sold my new brand new Stradic because I liked the new Sahara so much. Lots cheaper and still comes in a 3000 size which is same weight as 2500 with more capacity. IMO you can't beat that reel for the money.

Re: Spinning reel
Stradic if you can, otherwise Symetre.

Re: Spinning reel
Go on Ebay and buy a Damn Quick 330 spinning reel. Solid metal made in the days when things lasted a lifetime.
You will get 20 years of hard fishing out of that reel.

Re: Spinning reel
do not buy a sahara. They have a two piece bail and it will start snagging you line. I have been doing circles with shimano over this for the last year or so. That being said i ended up buying a couple saros to replace them for now. Love them! Have put countless steelhead in the boat with these reels. smooth casting, smooth reeling and good drag.

Re: Spinning reel
I like the Stradic 3000's. I stay away from Pflueger and Okuma reels.

You can do the same with a Mitchell 300, but that doesn't mean I would enjoy the 20 years of fishing it.
I enjoy how smooth a modern reel is...even if it requires maintenance.

Re: Spinning reel
i narrowed it down to the saros and stradic and have done some research on the Saros and the Stradic and i'm not sure if the stradic has the wp drag like the saros but the stradic has the worm bearing or something like that that put the line on the reel better. my buddy who just bought one said he talked to a guy about it for a while and the saros is comparable to Sustain which is like there top of the line model
