Prayers needed for my psychotic sis-in-law
My sis-in-law, Karla, was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 5. Now she is 55. Over the years, she lived with her parents, and her disease was controlled with medication, allowing her to be able to do simple things like load the dishwasher. Her parents passed five and two years ago, and we had her with us for about three years. Her kidneys finally weakened to the point she needed dialysis and we found a wonderful group home for her near the dialysis center. She was doing fine. Then about 10 days ago, we got a call that Karla had spent the night standing in the laundry room and she had stopped talking and eating. Under the circumstances and with doctor's advice, we had her committed to the psychiatric ward at Rogue Valley Medical Center. It's like her mind is stuck. For example, the nurse tried to give her a pill -- put it on her tongue, and gave her a glass of water and lifted it to her mouth. An hour later, the pill had dissolved on her tongue and she was found still holding the glass to her mouth.
Seasoned psychiatric professionals are baffled, and reviewing the literature. They are currently de-toxing her of her many medications in hopes of rebalancing her and getting her to function again, but because she is not eating, she cannot successfully dialyze. Yesterday she was fearful and hallucinating.
It's like watching a train wreck in extremely slow motion, and the clock is ticking. We don't know what lies ahead in the next few days. Perhaps God wants her precious soul home, and free of her tangled and confused mind.
Any kind thoughts or prayers for Karla and her medical staff would be gratefully accepted.

I suspect you will see some result from the de-toxing. Nevertheless, and best wishes. Don

Thank you all so much. Don, I have been told that Karla has about 10 days if nothing changes, and we are starting hospice at the hospital. God alone knows how -- and the very second when -- this will end. Perhaps it is his mercy at work.

Things are going downhill quickly. We're probably looking at a day or two before she passes.

Thanks Doug. We are of course sad for Karla, but also excited that she will soon be free of her burdens and wrapped in God's loving arms.

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like you have done a lot to try and help her though. Life is so unfair.

Hospital called late last night. Karla passed away Monday about 10:40 p.m.
Now she is healthy, whole and troubled no more ...
