Beer bread
One of life's simplest pleasures:
3 cups self-rising flour
3 tablespoons sugar
pinch of salt
12 ounces of room-temp beer or near beer
Stir until just mixed and turn into a greased loaf pan.
Melt 2 tbsp butter and drizzle over top. Cover and let rise just five minutes.
Bake 45-50 minutes at 375.
It's just that simple.

Re: Beer bread
Going to give it a try this afternoon. I'm assuming the recipe is for one loaf? Double if you want two, and so on?

Re: Beer bread
Family liked it, but I'm not sure I did. Pretty yeasty taste and on the heavy side if I did it right. Guess I'm more a soft chewy type bread lover. Was fun though.

Re: Beer bread
WA: I think the fun of it is how easy it is to whip up, and any hot bread right out of the oven with butter on it tastes great. I would agree though that it is a wee bit short in the flavor department. I like it for dipping into a bowl of homemade chili or chicken soup. Also good as French toast the next morning.

Re: Beer bread
We have a recipe that came from an Apastolic cookbook that is also simple, yet is a little less "yeasty". I think it is due to more sugar covering it up.
1 can beer
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
3 c. self rising flour.
Bake 325 for 45 min.

So which beers have everyone tried so far,
I have done several with Angry Orchard Crisp Apple and it is delicious along with Ebenezer. My first loaf I used Witchcraft and it tasted good to me but wasn't a big hit with the family because of the high IBU's in the beer.
I have also stirred in green chiles and sharp cheddar which makes for some good eats.

Re: Beer bread
Did another batch with sprite instead of beer. The kids liked that flavor better.

Re: Beer bread
Hmm, kind of citrusy? Bet it would be great with orange marmalade!
