Default Broke in a new Tuna Captain (Garabaldi Sunday)

Our friend Dan got his first Halibut on his 21' Arima earlier this year, and with the forecast looking good for Sunday he wanted to expand his horizons a little and chase some Tuna!

Headed west at 5:30am and dropped in gear around 30 miles straight out, small temp break but nothing happening so we headed towards the 125. Tried again a few miles short of the 125. Worked it for a while and finally fish on! We just got the one (Dans first Tuna), then trolled south for quite some time without any action.

This was not how it was, I said...."lots of action" I had said, "jumpers, doubles, triples, blood everywhere" I had told him. I think my man was starting to think I was exaggerating a bit.

We decided to head SE and go back in towards the first temp break and South and finally got us a double, we ran into Always be Fishing in that area and he says he's been getting fish pretty regular. We give him plenty of room and begin to work that area. One or two singles later, triple on! Now were talkin', the three of us land the three fish, now we spilled some blood!

We start hitting fish a little more consistently....we hook up on the corner plug and inside rod. Two nicer fish, we wonder why dude is taking so long to get this fish up, then its in the boat....nice size fish. He broke my well worn Yozuri plug as it would not run right the rest of the day no matter what I tried.

It was really nasty out there towards the afternoon

We ended up with just the right amount of fish for 3 guys, with some nice size ones mixed in, and headed in at 22-25 kts. That Arima was getting it done despite the stuffed kill bags. That boat impresses me for its size.

Dan with his first ever haul of Tuna!

I wore a new shirt from Columbia (wifes employer) called their "blood and guts" line, supposed to be super stain resistant. I purposely wore it outside the bibs so it would get maximum soakage. After a second wash with stain remover the blood actually was gone for the most part. Here is a pic of the "before" shirt...will post after pic later.

Not lights out but we got our fish....great day out on the the big blue with good friends, and a new Tuna captain is born. Thanks again Dan for the trip. (if you ever sign up for Ifish).

All warmed up for the OTC Ilwaco!
